Confident Black Men and Women Scare America

I have written about LaVar Ball since he popped on the scene because in the beginning I felt like it was a click bait story. You want to get a couple shares, a couple retweets, write about LaVar Ball. So I stayed away from it but then something happened. I started to see the hypocrisy in the way we society views black men and independence. Let me give you a couple of examples.

  1. Nike exec George Raveling on LaVar Ball: “The worst thing to happen to basketball in the last hundred years.”
  2. Unnamed NFL Coaches, “Colin Kaepernick is a traitor and I would never want him on my team.”
  3. Republican Congressman, “Obama took 400,000 for a speech; we need to take his pension.”

What do all three of these things have in common?  The black men involved weren’t docile enough.

Why is that whenever I hear about Lavar Ball I never hear that he’s been convicted of any crimes? Why is it that I’ve never heard of his sons getting in trouble or of him hitting his wife? Why is it that I haven’t seen one piece on him being a good father and mentor while I’ve seen two hundred stories on black boys and them surviving without fathers? That’s not the story they want to put out there, they’d rather focus on how bad of a guy he is because he doesn’t want to take their handouts.

Now let’s talk about Kaepernick, teams were saying he’s asking for too much money and most people were happy to accept that was the truth. Meanwhile he comes out and says, “No one has talked to me or returned my calls so how would they know what I’m asking?” Guys have beat their wives, killed people drunk driving, fixed games and the worst person in the league is a guy that took a knee to bring awareness to cops killing black men and women?

Lastly, President Obama was criticized and attacked more than any President in history when there was no basis for it. The worst thing he probably did was wear that tan suit that time. After eight years of this Republicans lost their minds seeing him on vacations and smiling. They lost their minds that he and his wife got this huge book deal and they lost their minds even more when it came out that he was getting 400k for a speech. I live in Texas, ex-politicians and athletes have been getting paid for years to give speeches but now it’s a problem?

Confident Black Men scare America because they hate our strength. When Tiger Woods was winning Majors he was “Blasian,” I’d honestly never heard that term in my life. When he got caught cheating, he was a black man. When Kanye West said, “Yeezy’s will jump over Jordan’s,” we laughed and said no one buys Adidas. Now you can’t find a pair of Yeezy’s anywhere, they stay sold out.

kap

Lavar Ball says, “If the Lakers draft my son, they’ll make the playoffs next year.” He didn’t say they’ll win a Championship or that his son will be the best Laker of all time. He said a team full of young talent with a pass first point guard could make the playoffs. People are literally hostile at that. He has confidence in his son and that makes you uncomfortable? Just because Archie Manning wasn’t on TV every day doesn’t mean he wasn’t behind the scenes making sure his sons were taken care of.

I Don’t Want to Survive; I Want to Thrive

img_2103“Grab her by the pussy.” No matter how many times I hear it in my head I can’t help but to laugh. Not one of those gut busting, tears coming out of my eyes laughs, but one of those this is crazy laughs. I’m not laughing this morning and neither are most of the men and women I know.

I keep hearing how African Americans survived slavery and survived Jim Crow and survived the harshness of the Civil Rights Movement and the Reagan era. Stop telling me how we survived mass incarceration. “We survived all that, we’ll survive Donald Trump as President.” It’s not Trump I’m afraid of, it’s Trump’s America that scares me. A world of racial profiling and 4 dollar a gallon gas. I am not my ancestors and I love them for surviving and living but I choose not to survive. I choose to thrive. I choose to not sit at home behind my computer and sulk and be afraid and not cause trouble at work. I choose to hold my head up high, walk into my office and remind anyone that’s jubilant about last night’s victory that we have HR for a reason and I won’t threaten you are curse you out. I will simply write an email getting you fired for discussing politics at work.

Last night was my youngest sister’s 15th birthday. When we were having dinner she told us she got a letter from Stanford University to come visit the school and be a part of a program. She is incredibly smart and mature, she writes short stories and loves photography. Her future is as bright as she wants it to be, that doesn’t stop because of Trump or his supporters. Today’s weather mirrors how my heart feels. Dark, cold, unsettling but with a new day comes a new sky and with a new sky comes the ability to rise above this America we are now living in.

I don’t want to survive. I don’t want to get disrespected and marginalized and not get the same opportunities and be okay with it. Surviving is what our ancestors did because they had no choice because it was survive or die. We have a choice, not just to survive but to thrive. We have a choice on whether or not we want to build something and make something of ourselves or survive. On whether or not we want to accept racism, sexism, elitism and survive or look racism, sexism and elitism in the face and say, “Move or get ran over.”

How the Last Great American President Lead to the Death of a Nation

President Obama and TrumpI thought if we just ignored Trump he would go away. Sort of like a summer cold. I don’t need to take any medicine because I’ll be okay in a day or two, it’s summer. Well my friends, it’s not summer anymore and we still have that cold. I thought writing about him, tweeting about him, Facebooking about him; those things would just give him more attention. He lives off attention. However, it’s almost a year later and he’s the Republican nominee for President. I think it’s time to stop ignoring him.

How do you destroy arguably the greatest Republic the world has ever known? You don’t have a once in a lifetime flood that puts the country under water. You don’t have a volcano that erupts and covers the country in lava. You don’t even have nuclear war that takes out millions of people and brings down skyscrapers and schools.

You destroy a country with a 4 step process. Racism, money and arrogance.

Racism

The number of hate groups in this country has grown by over 500% since the moment President Obama took office. We as a country ignored that racism still existed, of course we’d made progress since water hoses, dogs and separate water fountains but the culture and mentality never went away. The more popular President Obama became, the more resentment and hate started to build. So much so that by his second term you had United States Congressman and Senators openly saying they would veto everything and not work with him. There are certain counties in this country that have threatened to leave America because President Obama is our President. These people needed a voice. They needed someone that would feed into their hate and that voice became Donald Trump.

Money

Americans like wealth. We like the idea of someone building something and working for themselves. In Donald Trump a lot of Americans see a guy that came from nothing to something and is going to “Make America Great Again” by creating jobs. The problem with this logic is Donald Trump borrowed money from his father to start his first business. He had connections and was able to go bankrupt and just start over. But we live in a world of “Do as I say and not as I do.” So already tired of the Republicans they couldn’t relate to, they chose a man whose money they could relate to.

Arrogance

The Republican party thought they could play with fire and not get burnt. They thought they could walk the line of racism, sexism, inequality and there be no repercussions. They created a monster in the tea party and now they can’t control that monster. You have Senators and Congressman that are qualified to run this country and they can’t even get 2% of votes because the public sees them as empty suits. The sad thing is had they worked with President Obama and given him and his policies a chance. Trump would still be hosting TV shows instead of being 4 months away from the most important job on this earth.

There is a very simple and scary way Donald Trump can become President of the United States of America. Most Americans don’t vote. Hilary Clinton and Bernie Sanders both have supporters that will not vote for the other. So what happens if people that hate President Obama and simply vote Republican have a bigger turnout than those that don’t? I know people right now that think, “There’s no way Trump can win,” so I’m not voting. Have that mindset and America won’t be great again but will be at war again and again and again.

If You Want My Vote; Stand For Something

IMG_0701Yesterday was the last day of early voting for the run-off elections in the city of Houston and Saturday is the actual elections. As someone that loves politics and the effort and selflessness a lot of these men and women put into their campaigns and offices I have to be honest and say; I have not been very impressed as of late by any politician.

Where are the politicians that inspire? That are willing to take a stand when it’s not popular. That are willing to offend people that need to be offended. Too much history went into getting me the right to vote for me to just give my vote away. It’s easy to talk about police brutality when something happens that makes news but why don’t I ever hear a politician blame the officers that sit back and do nothing while they know some of the men and women they serve with are bad apples?

When President Obama ran for President, I remember walking door to door trying to register people to vote knowing Texas was a red state. I didn’t care though, wearing that t-shirt, feeling proud to be a part of something new and encouraging. It changed me. Seven years later, where are the new generation of politicians that are going to have 18-28 year olds not going to happy hour but walking door to door?

I don’t care if you have money behind you or went to an amazing school. I don’t care if you have experience in politics or who your father was. What I care about is your love for the people and your passion for making our City, State and Nation better. I’m seeing too many people that are simply saying things because they sound good. People that have the nerve to ask me for my vote when they won’t make a statement about anything of relevance.

Donald Trump is leading the Republican candidates for President not because he’s the best option, it’s because he’s the only option that’s getting people inspired. As racist and ignorant as his comments are at times, they are views that are shared by a lot of people and that is something we have to pay attention to. Where is the Democrat that’s inspiring these sorts of passions? Is it Hilary Clinton? The same Hilary Clinton that wouldn’t stand alongside President Obama and quit on his administration so she run for office? Is it Bernie Sanders? A man that’s been around for a long time and has good ideas but no one knows or cares about? In a country as big as ours, where are the options that will change the world?

My President Is Black and That Matters To Me

President Obama

President Obama

My President Is Black and That Matters To Me

So many people in our country are intimidated by President Obama because he’s not like the black men they know in their little towns or cities. That scares them because it goes against everything they’ve been taught their entire lives. That makes me smile.

The politically correct thing to say is that it doesn’t matter that my President is a black man because he got the job based off of character, experience, education and a plan. Race and skin tone have nothing to do with it. That’s the politically correct thing to say. I don’t feel like being politically correct tonight. My Godson and Goddaughter will have lived their entire lives with a black man as President, that matters to me. That makes me smile. That means when I tell them they can be anything they want in life, I’m not lying.

There’s not one minority Senator in the south anymore. On the steps of the Texas Senate you had armed men with assault rifles openly threatening the President. Right now our country is more divided then it’s ever been and that’s because of one thing and one thing only. So many people can’t wrap their head around having a black man as President. They couldn’t six years ago, they couldn’t four years ago and they can’t now. So what…..

We’re here, we aren’t going anywhere. You can assassinate our leaders, put our fathers and uncles and cousins in prison for crimes that other men commit and get probation for. You can deny us jobs and make us build our own companies and make our own way but we are here! I will not walk with my head down throughout the day to make you feel more comfortable. I won’t bite my tongue or smile when you make a bad joke about my President, your President! I won’t be happy to have a job when I know I’m qualified to run the company! My President is black and that matters to me.

Great speech and when he’s finished with his two terms, look out for our First Lady because she’s going to be the next governor of Illinois and no telling what else!

~ Demez F. White

“Why Julius Caesar and Barack Obama Will Die the Same Death (Figuratively)”

A man the people love but the wealthy despise.

A man that wanted the Senate to work together but was fought at every turn because if he passed any bill it would only make him more popular with the people. A child that rose from poverty to a lawyer to a Senator to the leader of a nation.

Who am I talking about? Take your pick?

It could be a Senator from Illinois or a Senator from Rome. The President of the most powerful nation today or the Consul of the most powerful nation then.

Barack Obama and Julius Caesar have a lot in common but I won’t bore you with facts and dates and numbers. I want to talk about how and why their fate walks hand in hand with their doom. Not because of the Senators and wealthy that despised them. But because of the people they called friends.

Brutus killed Caesar because he knew he could never rule Rome while he lived. It doesn’t matter if you’re the second most powerful man in the world when your best friend is the most powerful. So he set us a plot to have him stabbed on the Senate floor. A betrayal that still gets written about today.

When is the last time you’ve seen Hilary Clinton or Joe Biden photo’d next to the President? When is the last time you saw either one of them on TV defending his policies or the personal attacks on him? You may see them defending the “Administration” but you won’t see them defending their President.

Why?

Because they’re two certainties in life… President Obama will either lose this election in November or he’ll finish his two years and be out in 2016. Any film or video or quotes that Republicans have of Biden or Clinton standing next to President Obama will be used against them.

They may not be holding knives ready to stab him on the Senate floor but they’ve stabbed him in the back with their inactivity. With their lack of support, with their fear that if they ride too hard for him it will be held against them in 2016.

Under Julius Caesar Rome passed more laws that bettered the lower class than at any point in their history. Under Barack Obama the United States has passed more bills and laws then at any point since the Great Depression. President Clinton was a paper President, he was popular simply because the world was warless and the economy was booming. President Bush took care of the wealthy and elite and didn’t apologize for it.

President Obama has passed that benefit Student Loan holders, the poor in reference to Health Care. And even lesser bills that have bigger consequences. We have sanctions on Iran at this very moment, if Romney was in office we would be at war with Iran. That’s the difference between a leader of a Nation and a man that simple wants the title.

This note isn’t me thinking that President Obama will be assassinated in the White House by Hilary and Biden. But this is me saying that they are plotting in the simplest of ways. And that plotting is going to lead to President Obama losing more than he wins.

Read these next lines very carefully. Because I firmly believe this is what will take place in the next 14 months.

Win or lose this election Hilary Clinton will resign.

Win or lose this election Joe Biden will start to be seen a lot more and distance himself from the President’s policies.

The Republicans will win more seats in the Senate and in Congress because Republican voters care more than Democratic voters.

These shootings by middle age and young white men will become far more consistent.

Julius Caesar was a great leader that died young because the wealthy feared his impact.

President Obama has the ability to be one of the greatest leaders in History but will be die an underwhelming political death because the wealthy and his own party fears him.
