đŠ My brother-in-law kept throwing his trash over the fence into my yard, so I decided to teach him a lesson he would feel before he even saw it.
My brother-in-law lives in the house next door, and our yards are separated by a simple fence. Weâre not closeâIâd say weâre more like ordinary neighbors who greet each other when we happen to meet.
One day, when I went outside, I saw some trash in my yard near the fence. Then, one day, I caught my brother-in-law throwing it over the fence into my yard.
I asked him to stop, but he just smiled and said, âBesides, itâs practically the same yard.â
Then one morning, when I went out into my yard, I smelled an unbearable odor, and once again, it was because of his trash.
My wife told me not to start a family war, but this time, I couldnât let it go. I decided to teach him a lesson once and for all.

I finally realized that there was no point in telling him the same thing over and over.
I simply had to use his own logic against him.
The next day, I gathered all the trash he had thrown into my yard and put it in a large, carefully sealed box.
Then I stuck a note on it that said:
âSince, according to you, our yards are the same yard, here are the belongings of our shared yard.â
I went and left the box right in front of his door.
A few minutes later, he came outside, furious.
â What is this?
I calmly replied:
â Your trash. But since you say we share the same yard, I figured it was only fair that we both enjoy whatever we find in it.
He stood there silently.
Then I offered him a deal:
âYou stop throwing your trash into my yard, and this box disappears for good.â
He got the message. From that day on, nothing ever came over the fence again.
