One day, I came home earlier than expected because my meeting had been canceled. When I arrived at the house, I heard noises coming from our yard. I went to look out the window, thinking it was our neighbor.
It was actually my husband. He was digging a large hole in the yard. I waved at him, but he neither saw nor heard me. So I went down to see what he was doing.
When he saw me, he panicked. He got out of the hole and shouted, “Don’t come any closer!”
“Why are you shouting? What are you hiding from me?” I asked, surprised.
“Nothing. Trust me and don’t come any closer!” he insisted.
All of this seemed strange to me, and I couldn’t obey him. I moved closer to see what he was hiding inside, and I almost fainted. “Oh my God! What have you done?”

As I got closer, I saw yellowed bones sticking out of the freshly turned soil.
My heart tightened—for a moment, I thought they were human remains.
Fear paralyzed me, and I stepped back.
My husband raised his hands to calm me.
He explained that while digging to install a pipe, he had hit something hard.
Out of curiosity, he had continued carefully uncovering the area to understand what it was.
Little by little, he discovered a small carcass that had been buried there for a long time.
Looking more closely, I realized: they were not human bones, but those of an animal, probably a dog or a fox.
Relief washed over me, mixed with shame for having imagined the worst.
