Being a single mom and raising a child alone is a challenge. To avoid this situation, two young moms came up with a brilliant idea: to live together.
Lauren Robinson, 26, and Samantha Best, 24, share a home with their children, Haidyn, 5, and Kaelin, 4, in Auckland, New Zealand. Lauren proposed the idea after their respective breakups, finding it smarter to share the costs of rent and food rather than live separately.
Thus, the two best friends found their balance.
Of course, their choice to live together has sparked reactions online. Some internet users have expressed doubts about this co-living arrangement between moms, suggesting they might have an intimate relationship.
“We’ve received some unpleasant comments, but the majority of people support us, saying it’s a great idea,” said Samantha.
The benefits are numerous. Their children get along wonderfully and play together for hours, squabbling like siblings. This proximity prevents them from growing up alone and keeps them stimulated daily.
Lauren and Samantha are on the same wavelength and regularly help each other, whether it’s picking up the kids from school, looking after them at home, or doing the shopping.
Neither mother is actively dating anyone at the moment, but they’re not closed off to the idea of meeting a new partner in the future. For now, they are focusing on their children and careers.
“Everything is new after a breakup, so we’re taking the time to work on ourselves before eventually returning to the dating scene,” Lauren shared.
They acknowledge that being a single mother unfortunately comes with stereotypes. But they hope that by sharing their story, others will consider this solution.
