Lily was only nine years old when we learned that she had an incurable illness. Her biological father had left when she was just one year old, and I raised her alone until the day I met Adam.
Adam loved Lily dearly and always did everything he could for her. She grew deeply attached to him as well, to the point that she called him “Dad.”
When the doctors told us that the treatments were no longer working and that she probably didn’t have much time left, Lily shared her one last big dream with us.
She dreamed of seeing Cinderella Castle in Florida. To make her dream come true, Adam took on a second job, while I sold the bracelet I had inherited from my grandmother.
We went away for five days, and those five days were the happiest of our lives. Lily was glowing. She had finally found her smile again. Standing in front of the castle, she admired every detail with eyes full of wonder.
On the last day, while Adam was loading the luggage into the car and I was checking out at the front desk, the hotel manager approached me and said:

As I looked through the windows, I saw an elderly man.
It was Lily’s biological father.
After years of silence and regret, Robert had come back into our lives.
Adam admitted that he had found an old letter from Robert and decided to contact him.
