The new girl had barely arrived at the camp when Daniel noticed her. He approached her with a mocking smile. Shorter than most of the recruits, she was still wearing her uniform awkwardly, which revealed her inexperience.
—Are you the new girl? Daniel called out loudly enough for everyone to hear. I thought we needed soldiers, not tourists.
The other soldiers burst out laughing, but the young woman remained silent.
Her silence encouraged Daniel. Convinced he had found an easy target, he continued mocking her, becoming more and more confident.
—You won’t even last a day here. So, what are you planning to do? Cry and ask to go home?
The young recruit clenched her fists but said nothing. Daniel then approached her and grabbed her by the T-shirt, certain that he could easily knock her down.

Daniel ended up on the ground, completely disoriented.
The laughter immediately stopped.
Before he could even get back up, the recruit locked his arm and firmly pinned him to the ground, without showing the slightest hesitation.
“You probably should have asked before judging someone by their appearance,” she calmly told him.
Daniel tried to break free, but he couldn’t. The young woman clearly knew combat techniques very well.
She eventually released him and stood up.
“I didn’t come here looking for trouble. But I didn’t come here to be a target either.”
A heavy silence fell over the camp.
This time, nobody laughed. All the soldiers looked at the new recruit with respect.
