Since the start of the school year, Dylan, a student, has been asking his mom to give him two sandwiches for school instead of one.
Josette Duran from Albuquerque simply thought her son had a big appetite and didn’t ask him any questions.
However, one day, unable to hold back, she asked him, “Sweetie, aren’t you getting full?” The boy then replied, “It’s for a boy. He doesn’t bring anything for lunch. I guess they have nothing to eat.”
Josette is surprised and moved by Dylan’s response.
It turns out that his friend’s family is in a very difficult situation: the mother is raising her son alone. Moreover, she recently lost her job and is barely making ends meet.
This story touched Josette, who had herself experienced a tough situation a few years ago.
A single mother, she also lost her job and could no longer afford to rent an apartment. She had to sleep in her car for a while and wash her son in public restroom sinks.
She didn’t ask any more questions but simply continued to prepare a second meal for her son every day for school.
One morning, she received a call from the school and was invited to meet with the principal. There, she met Dylan’s friend’s mother. She learned about the kind gesture and, with tears in her eyes, came to thank her.
“I know you have been feeding my son, and I am extremely grateful to you. And now, I have found a job.” The boy’s mother offered Josette money.
But she didn’t take the money.
Moreover, her son’s act of kindness, taking care of a friend, suggested to Josette that she could do even more.
With friends from the volleyball team, they collected $400 and paid for meals in the school cafeteria for children whose families couldn’t afford them.
“I love you, my son! I am very proud of you! Always do the right thing! Your fan.”
The media got wind of Josette’s actions, and a video of her involvement went viral on the Internet.
Indeed, to change the world for the better, you don’t need to move mountains. You just need to help those around you.
