😯 One night, I heard my adopted daughter speaking a foreign language: I used a translation app, and what she said made me call the police.
For ten years, we had been married, and during all that time, we tried everything to have a child, but without success.
Eventually, we decided to adopt a girl. While visiting the orphanage, a three-year-old little girl immediately caught my attention. Her name was Lily.
Unlike the other children, she came to greet us with a big smile before going back to play with the others. We made our decision and adopted her. She quickly got used to us.
However, one night, as I passed by her room, I heard her speaking. At first, I wasn’t worried, thinking she was dreaming. But when it happened several nights in a row and I noticed she kept repeating the same sentence, I decided to find out what she was saying.
She was speaking a foreign language, so I used a translation app to understand her. What she said made me call the police.

When I translated her words, my blood ran cold.
Lily was saying in Irish: “Mom is hiding in our attic.”
After a few minutes of hesitation, I decided to check—and I found a woman hiding in our attic.
She looked exhausted, dirty, and frightened.
She explained that she was our daughter’s biological mother.
After leaving her at the orphanage, she had become homeless and had taken refuge in our attic to stay close to her.
I called the police so she could get help, but seeing Lily reunited with her mother was overwhelming.
The little girl held her mother tightly, and for the first time in a long while, she looked truly happy and reassured.
