A milestone in French mountaineering history: Sophia Lavaut conquers fourteen peaks over 8,000 meters in altitude.
On Monday, June 26, she successfully climbed the very last one, Nanga Parbat in Pakistan (8,126 meters above sea level).
This achievement, obtained today exclusively by her (including both men and women), has been forged over the years.
It all began in 2012 when she climbed Shishapangma (8,013 meters) and Cho Oyu (8,188 meters) in Tibet.
In 2014, she set out to conquer the highest peak on the planet: Mount Everest, at 8,800 meters above sea level.
Nothing can stop her, except for an avalanche that occurred on K2, forcing her to take a few months’ break.
However, she eventually succeeded in climbing it in 2018.
In an interview with “Le Figaro,” she shared a valuable lesson in lucidity: “Never would I have imagined being able to stay awake for 39 hours without sleeping…
Remember to realize your aspirations, seize your incredible abilities…”
She is only the fourth woman to have reached the summit of all these mountains.
This accomplishment will be memorable in the history of mountaineering!
