Years of hard work, constraints, professional responsibilities, and busy schedules—what many seniors seek in retirement is happiness. Indeed, this period marks the beginning of a time to take better care of oneself and enjoy precious leisure time more fully.
Moving into a retirement home or senior residence is also an option considered by many citizens, but for some, the cost can be a concern. Terry Robinson, a 64-year-old man, had an original idea.
Determined to overcome his financial constraints, this 64-year-old resident chose to live… in a hotel! His Facebook post, shared by tens of thousands, caught the attention of our colleagues at Le Point.
To enjoy his golden years, Terry Robinson chose the right method: booking a room at the Holiday Inn. He is fully aware of the significance of his decision.
After doing the math, he explained on Facebook that instead of paying $188 a day for retirement housing, he would only pay $65 at the hotel. His strategy?
Combining long-stay offers with discounts for seniors, including breakfast and even ‘happy hours’ with lower drink prices than usual.
In addition to having a hotel room, Terry will have access to the hotel’s gym, pool, and sauna. Furthermore, he will benefit from a range of daily services: shower gel, shampoo, toothpaste, and a razor.
Moreover, his room will be regularly maintained by the hotel’s cleaning service.
‘With a $5 tip per day, you get a full-service experience, where you’re treated as a client and not a patient,’ he shared.
And concerning his health, Terry seems to have it all planned out. Housekeepers check in to ensure everything is going well, and if not, they call an ambulance,” the elderly man said.
In case of any issues, expenses are covered by a public health system.
