In 1974, the United States sent an experimental satellite into orbit. It disappeared from radar in 1999 and all searches have been fruitless. Only in the spring of 2024 the device unexpectedly returned – independent researchers admit that we are talking about a military device.
The KH-9 Hexagon satellite was launched into space as part of an experimental project. Initially, no one hid the fact that the device had an intelligence function. Already at that moment, some scientists drew attention to a small object separated from the satellite.
A few months later, the US admitted that Hexagon was carrying a small craft capable of independent flight. S73-7 is only 66 centimeters wide and was sent into geostationary orbit above the equator.
Apparently, the S73-7 was equipped with special protection against radar. Detecting artificial objects in orbit is not an easy task even without such means – the satellite was simply hidden here.
The tiny satellite was intended to be hidden. And apparently, he completed his task, since no one saw him for 25 years. The question arises as to how the device returned, says Jonathan McDowell of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics.
So far, NASA has not commented on the appearance of the missing satellite. Probably, the agency will prefer to liquidate the apparatus that has fulfilled its function.
