😦 “Anyway, you’re at home all day and you have nothing to do,” my daughter-in-law would say while bringing her laundry to my house every weekend for me to wash, and she never thanked me, as if it were my duty. So, I decided to teach her a good lesson.
It all started one Saturday when my daughter-in-law stayed at my house with my grandchildren. She brought their clothes and said to me:
— Would you mind washing this together with your laundry?
I agreed without thinking, because it was simply one basket of clothes. But very quickly, this became a habit for her.
Every weekend, she would come to my house carrying a huge bag of laundry and tell me to wash it, dry it, and fold it. I put up with it for a few months, but one day, I calmly said to her:
— Marie, I’m sixty-seven years old and I’m not your personal laundromat. I want to help you from time to time, but not so regularly.
She laughed and simply replied:
— Anyway, you’re at home all day and you have nothing to do. I’m giving you something to do so you won’t get bored. You should thank me instead.
Her words really hurt me, and I decided to teach her a good lesson once and for all.

The following Saturday, Marie arrived with her bag of laundry, but this time, I had prepared something.
On Sunday evening, she came to pick up her clothes, and when she opened the bag, she was left speechless.
All her clothes were neatly folded, but accompanied by a small bill: Washing: €20. Drying: €10. Folding: €10. Total: €40.
— Are you kidding?!
— No. You explained to me that I had nothing to do with my days. So I decided to turn my free time into work.
Marie remained silent for a few seconds, then she realized that she had crossed the line.
She eventually apologized to me and promised never again to consider my time as something she was entitled to.
Since that day, she has done her own laundry, and whenever she needs my help, she asks me respectfully.
