😲 “Clean this up,” the lieutenant colonel ordered me after deliberately spilling her coffee on the floor. She thought she could humiliate me in front of everyone, without imagining what was going to happen next.
Ever since I arrived at the base, the lieutenant colonel did not like me at all and was always looking for an opportunity to make remarks about me. She always wanted to put me down in front of the other military personnel.
One day, she spilled her coffee on the floor and said to me:
—Clean this up!
—Excuse me, Colonel? I said, surprised.
She pointed at the floor.
—You heard me very well. Clean this up.
Several military personnel turned around and looked at us.
—You’re the one who spilled the coffee, I replied.
—So what? Are you going to question my orders now?
She thought she could humiliate me in front of everyone, without imagining what was going to happen next.

I bent down to pick up the cup when the doors to the room suddenly opened.
The commander entered and asked what had happened.
The lieutenant colonel immediately explained to him that she had simply given me an order.
She introduced me as a simple soldier who had recently been assigned to the base.
The commander looked at her for a few seconds, then asked her if she was really certain about what she was claiming.
She replied that she was absolutely certain.
The commander then gave a slight smile.
He explained in front of all the military personnel that I was not a simple soldier and that my presence at this base was part of a strictly confidential mission.
Then he revealed that my actual rank was higher than that of the lieutenant colonel.
A complete silence fell over the room. The lieutenant colonel turned pale and could not find a single word to say in response.
