In January 2016, Anja Ringgren Lovén, founder of the African Children’s Aid Education and Development Foundation (ACAEDF), rescued a 2-year-old child wandering the streets, completely emaciated, hungry, and on the brink of death.
This abandoned child had to fend for himself to survive and had been a victim, like so many others, of false beliefs in witchcraft.
Anja immediately took charge of the child and transported him to the hospital for intensive care and blood transfusions. It can be said that Hope had an angel guardian, this woman who came from the heavens.
Following the release of images of Hope with his rescuer, the organization received a million-dollar donation from around the world to save this unfortunate child.
Furthermore, this donation allowed Anja to create an organization to help abused children accused of witchcraft, build a medical clinic, and rescue these children from torture.
But the greatest humanitarian gift was the kindness and empathy of Danish Anja, who earned the highest praise.
Today, Hope is growing up normally and has started attending school at the orphanage created by the Danish woman and her husband.
Regardless of the practices of these rituals, the consequences are often terrifying. These victims are frequently stigmatized, abandoned, discriminated against, abused, tortured, and often killed.
Such physical or mental violence constitutes a violation of children’s rights as stipulated in the Convention on the Rights of the Child. In response, NGOs, including Save the Children, regularly intervene to protect these children from violence and abandonment.
