Nowadays, it is unusual for married couples to stay together for decades.
When you ask these married couples who have been together for 50-60 years what their secret is, the answer is almost never the same.
We remember a couple who told us not to go to bed angry at each other, and that stayed with us. Of course, the best advice for young people is to communicate and build trust.
But one North Carolina couple deserves all the praise and gratitude for celebrating 82 years of marriage.
Additionally, the couple celebrated their 103rd and 100th birthdays, seven days apart.
And their straightforward approach to having a long and happy marriage.
D.V. Williams, 103, and Willie Williams, 100, celebrated their birthdays and anniversaries at a Charlotte church, as they sang with friends and family.
They definitely deserved the celebration. The couple discussed their long marriage, that spanned the Civil Rights Movement and the Great Depression, and revealed the secret of a long love: compassion.
“To see them at this age and so well; it’s just a blessing that they’re still here,” said their granddaughter BJ Williams-Green.
The couple are now on the verge of becoming the world’s oldest married couple, according to the Guinness Book of Records.
100-year-old Miyako Matsumoto, and her 108-year-old husband Masau Matsumoto, of Japan, currently hold the record.
