đŠ I drove my son to hockey practice five days a week. Then, one day, his coach asked me, âWhy hasnât your son been coming to practice anymore?â And what I discovered after following him left me speechless.
My son had been playing hockey for seven years. He loved the sport and wanted to become a champion. He was already 16 years old, but I still continued to drive him to practice. I drove him there five times a week and came back to pick him up in the evening.
One day, after dropping him off, on my way home, I noticed that he had forgotten his water bottle. I wasnât very far away yet, so I decided to bring it to him.
When I walked in, his coach saw me and came over, asking:
âWhy hasnât Sam been coming to practice anymore?
âWhat do you mean? Iâm the one who brings him here, I said, surprised.
He explained to me that, for the past two months, Sam had not attended practice. So, I decided to follow him to understand what was going on. What I discovered left me speechless.

I stayed in my car, at a distance, and saw Sam come out of the locker room with his hockey bag.
But instead of entering the rink, he went in another direction.
I discreetly followed him to a small community center.
There, he met several underprivileged children.
To my great surprise, he handed out hockey equipment to them and began teaching them how to skate.
I stood there frozen.
After practice, I confronted him. Sam lowered his eyes.
âMom, I wanted to tell you⊠but I was afraid you would be disappointed. I realized that I might not have the talent to become a champion. So I decided to help those who have never had the chance to play this sport.
My eyes filled with tears.
I hugged him and simply said:
âIâm proud of you, champion.
