đ˛ I let a homeless man spend the night under my porch during a violent storm. The next morning, he was gone, and what he had left behind brought me to tears.
It has been two years since my husband left me for his mistress. Since then, I have been living alone with my daughter. Despite the difficulties, I do everything I can to give my daughter the best life possible. And sometimes, when I see homeless people, I simply canât bring myself to walk past them without caring.
One day, while I was closing the windows during a violent storm, I noticed an elderly homeless man soaked to the bone and curled up under a tree.
I invited him to stay inside our home until the storm passed, but he refused and simply asked if he could stay under our porch until the rain stopped.
I prepared a meal for him and also brought him some pillows and a towel. Before going back inside, he asked for my name and thanked me repeatedly.
The next morning, I prepared a cup of coffee for him, but when I opened the door, he was gone. And what he had left behind brought me to tears.

I noticed something sitting on the chair where he had slept.
A beautiful gold watch.
Beside it was a small piece of paper folded in half.
âThank you for treating me like a human being when everyone else turns away. I donât have much left, but this watch has been with me through the most important days of my life. Today, it should belong to someone who deserves to wear it.â
I burst into tears.
I wanted to find that man and return the watch to him, but he was already gone.
My daughter came up behind me and picked up the note.
She turned it over.
A second sentence was written on the back:
âIf you ever find yourself in financial difficulty, sell it. But before you do, know that it is worth far less than what you just gave me: one night when I was no longer invisible.â
