Mary Warwick, despite her best efforts, could not understand how a short-legged dachshund kept escaping from a high enclosure while other seemingly larger dogs remained inside.
For three months she tried in vain to unravel Darcy’s secret, but in the end she had to install a camera to solve the mystery. The video footage finally revealed the cunning trick the little dachshund came up with to escape.
Mary and her husband, Scott, work daily. They prefer to keep their large house tidy and don’t want their five dogs to roam all the rooms unhindered. Therefore, in one of the rooms they equipped a comfortable enclosure for the pets, equipped with a high door.
This solution worked for all dogs except three-year-old Darcy. Upon returning from work, Mary and Scott constantly found the dachshund near the window. She somehow found her way out of the enclosure, despite the door getting higher and higher.
We even wanted to rename her Houdini. The bars are too narrow for a dachshund. The bars are too narrow for dogs to fit through. We had to set up a camera and watch her tricky recording trick,” Mary recalled.
It turned out that Darcy was getting help from another dog. The dog, named Branson, specifically approached the bars so that Darcy could jump on his back and climb over the bars.
Interestingly, the other dogs showed no interest in escaping, but only watched Darcy’s adventures.
Deciding that action needed to be taken, Mary and Scott decided to install an even taller door. It remains to be seen how Darcy will overcome this new barrier.
