On the evening of the dinner, I welcomed Lori with a big smile.
The table was beautifully set, the candles were glowing, and every guest seemed eager to enjoy a lovely evening.
Celine arrived a few minutes later, wearing an elegant red dress and sporting that smug smile that had hurt me so many times.
“Lori told me you had prepared something special,” she said as she sat down next to Mason.
I simply smiled.
The meal unfolded in a tense atmosphere.
Lori kept complimenting Celine, reminding everyone how perfect she and Mason had once been as a couple.

“Before we end this evening, I’d like to share something with all of you.”

He announced that he would be leaving with me and that he would no longer attend family gatherings where Celine was invited to humiliate us.
Lori tried to apologize, but Mason shook his head.
