😦 “Mom, you know, when you’re not at home, Dad takes me to a kind lady,” my 5-year-old daughter told me : I decided to follow them, and what I discovered was far more frightening.

A few months earlier, my husband had lost his job. So, he was the one staying at home to take care of our daughter, while I worked full-time to support our family.

One morning, while I was enjoying a day off with my daughter, I asked her where she would like to go to spend a nice day. Her answer surprised me:

— Mom, can you take me to the kind lady?

— Which lady, sweetheart?

— The one Dad takes me to when you’re not at home.

She continued explaining that there were lots of toys and delicious cookies at this woman’s place. Then she added in a whisper:

— But it’s a secret… Don’t tell Dad that I told you.

My heart sank. I thought my husband was living a double life. I decided not to tell him anything and secretly follow them to discover the truth. What I found was far more frightening than anything I could have imagined…

When I saw my husband enter a clinic with our daughter, I froze.

A few minutes later, I saw them come out of the office of a specialist doctor.

My husband had red eyes.

He wasn’t cheating on me… he was hiding something else.

When he saw me, he lowered his head and admitted that our daughter had been sick for several weeks.

He had been secretly taking her to see a doctor because he was afraid of worrying me and wanted to first understand what was happening.

The “kind lady” my daughter was talking about was simply the doctor who was treating her and giving her cookies after each appointment.

Since that day, we have faced our daughter’s difficulties together, reminding ourselves that trust and communication are the greatest remedies.
