It was my father Richard’s suit. He had passed away four years earlier.
Beneath the inscription, Claire had embroidered a single word: “Danny,” the nickname my father had always called me.
I immediately understood what she had intended.
She had asked my mother for a keepsake belonging to my father so she could incorporate it into our wedding.
At first, she had planned to use only a piece of the suit, but in the end, she decided to wear the entire suit so that a part of my father could accompany me down the aisle.
I burst into tears. Claire explained that she wanted to honor my father, whom she had never had the chance to meet.
We then exchanged our vows and wedding rings.
