😯 “You’re a mother, figure it out yourself,” my husband told me as he left me alone with our son, who had a 39°C (102.2°F) fever, before going away for the weekend with his friends. So, I did something he never expected.
My husband had planned to spend the weekend at a friend’s house, but our son Alex suddenly fell ill. He had a fever of 39°C (102.2°F) and was feeling really unwell.
I called my husband and asked him to come home so that we could take our son to the doctor. But he refused, saying that the game was about to start and that he couldn’t come.
Then he simply texted me:
— You’re a mother, figure it out yourself.
So I ordered an Uber and took Alex to the emergency room. When we arrived, his fever had risen even higher. The doctors examined him quickly and decided to keep him under observation. Fortunately, his condition eventually stabilized.
Throughout all of this, my husband didn’t even call or send a message to ask how our son was doing. His indifference deeply hurt me and made me furious.
At that moment, something inside me broke. So, I did something my husband absolutely did not expect…

When my husband came home, he thought I was simply going to criticize him for being absent.
But he found me sitting in the living room, with an envelope lying in front of me.
I explained to him that Alex was doing better, but that the night at the hospital had changed something permanently.
I reminded him that when our son needed him, he had chosen his friends and his game.
I also explained that his words, when he told me I was a mother and should figure it out myself, made me realize that I could no longer rely on him as a husband.
He tried to apologize and promised me that it would never happen again.
I then told him that I had made an appointment with a lawyer and that I wanted a divorce.
He remained completely silent.
I simply explained that I wasn’t divorcing him because of one weekend, but because of what that weekend had finally made me understand.
For the first time, he realized that he could actually lose me.
