After years of work, we had finally managed to save enough to afford a family vacation. For weeks, the children and I had been excitedly preparing for the trip.
But the day before we left, I learned that my husband had invited his mother without even telling me.
To be honest, I have never really liked my mother-in-law. She constantly interfered in our marriage and criticized everything I did. According to her, her son deserved a much better wife than me.
I always tried to avoid conflict to keep the peace. This time again, I simply told my husband calmly that I didn’t like the idea.
As soon as we arrived at the hotel, my mother-in-law handed me a sheet titled “Your tasks during the vacation.”
In short, I was expected to prepare meals, serve everyone, watch the children, clean the rooms, and handle all the chores while they enjoyed the vacation.
And that wasn’t all. She looked me straight in the eye and said:
“My son and I work hard and we deserve this vacation. As for you, you are always at home. You already rest all day, so you haven’t earned it.”
Her words deeply hurt me. At that moment, I made a decision: I would no longer obey her orders. Instead of accepting the humiliation, I decided to teach her a lesson once and for all.

The next morning, everything unfolded exactly as planned.
My mother-in-law arrived at the reception, convinced that everything would continue as usual.
She discovered that she now had to pay for her own expenses and that her activities had been cancelled.
Furious, she turned to my husband demanding explanations.
Before he could respond, I calmly reminded her of her own words: since I hadn’t “earned” the vacation, I had no reason to be her cook, housekeeper, or babysitter.
My husband, who had witnessed everything since our arrival, finally stood up for me and admitted he had been wrong to let his mother treat me that way.
While she was left to reflect on her behavior alone, we enjoyed a beautiful boat excursion with the children.
By the time we returned, she had become much more restrained, finally understanding that respect must go both ways.
