I am an administrative assistant in a small insurance office, a place where no one remembers your birthday, but everyone notices the slightest mistake.

One evening, as I was leaving the office, I came across a homeless man with his dog. The dog seemed healthy, but the man looked like he hadn’t eaten in days.

He wasn’t asking for money, just for food. I went to a nearby store and bought a hot meal, as well as food for the dog.

My boss handed me a letter from a veterans’ association that was congratulating me for my act.

He interpreted it as an attempt to manipulate my way into a promotion and immediately decided to fire me.
