😯 One evening, while my husband was brushing our daughter’s hair, he called me out, shouting: what I saw in the bathroom horrified me.
It was an ordinary evening. I was preparing dinner when my husband came home. We had dinner together, then he took our daughter into the bathroom to brush her hair and put her to bed.
It was a little routine they had every night, and our daughter loved it. Sometimes, when my husband had to come home very late and I offered to brush her hair, she would refuse, saying she would wait until he got back.
She was very attached to her father, just like I was to mine when I was a child, so I didn’t want to insist.
That evening, when they were in the bathroom, I suddenly heard my husband’s voice: “Alice, come quickly!”
I rushed to the bathroom and saw my husband standing still, his face pale.
“What’s wrong, darling?” I asked, a bit frightened.
He stood frozen for a few seconds, then pointed his finger and said, “Look.”
What I saw simply horrified me.

I approached our daughter, and there, I saw a large blue mark on the top of her head.
A very visible bruise, as if someone had hit her.
My heart tightened.
I immediately thought of school.
Had she been a victim of abuse, like we sometimes hear about?
My husband’s expression was just as worried as mine.
I knelt down in front of her and gently asked, “Sweetheart, did someone hurt you at school?”
She lowered her eyes, looking embarrassed, then whispered, “No, I just fell. I thought you wouldn’t see the bruise and that I could just forget about it.”
Then, she timidly said, “I didn’t want to worry you…”
