😲 Ten years after abandoning her children at the door of my house, my daughter-in-law returned to seek custody, but what one of the boys said during the trial froze the courtroom and changed the course of the hearing.
My son died in a car accident. A few days after the funeral, my daughter-in-law came to my house in the middle of the night with her sons. She didn’t even come inside: she simply left the boys at the door, knocked, and then left.
She abandoned her children without the slightest explanation. I worked hard to take care of my grandchildren, who were only two years old, because I refused to abandon them as well.
For ten years, I raised them believing their mother would never return. During all that time, she gave no news.
Then, one day, she suddenly reappeared. She came with her lawyer to demand custody of the boys. And that wasn’t all: she offered me a deal. She would let me keep the children in exchange for the majority of my company. If I refused, she threatened to take them far away from me.
Of course, I refused. In court, she played the role perfectly of a remorseful mother, claiming she only wanted to reclaim her children, and implying I was already too old to take care of them.
During the trial, one of my grandchildren stood up, looked his mother straight in the eyes, and said a sentence that froze the entire courtroom and changed the course of the hearing.

Jeffrey stated that their mother had abandoned them willingly.
He reminded everyone that she had never called or looked for them.
Then he added that they had been left as if they didn’t matter.
His mother’s lawyer tried to object, but the judge interrupted him and allowed the boy to continue.
Jeffrey explained that I had raised them with love and had never abandoned them, unlike their mother.
The judge listened carefully and then acknowledged that his age gave weight to his words in the decision.
Faced with his daughter-in-law’s silence, he announced that custody was denied to her.
