Jaquie Goncher of Marietta’s paralysis dates back to when she was 17 and jumped into a friend’s pool. While doctors were convinced she had “no chance” of walking again, the young woman was determined to prove them wrong.
After numerous sessions of physical therapy and exercise, she managed to get back on her feet for a short period. This significant achievement was something she intended to make the most of on her wedding day.
When she got engaged to Andy Goncher, her wish was clear: she wanted to dance with him during the ceremony.
Jaquie said, “Because of my blood pressure, I couldn’t stand for more than 30 minutes. I knew I’d be able to walk down the aisle with help, but what I really wanted was to stand and dance.”
This was achieved after much effort, with technologies such as spinal implants seeming to help people with paralysis walk again.
On the big day, Jaquie was about to prove in front of her astonished loved ones that her goal would be achieved. She walked down the aisle after standing up from her wheelchair and danced with her emotional husband.
The 30-year-old woman only shared her accomplishment with a few close friends to ensure it was a surprise for everyone. Mission accomplished.
“I looked at the ground the whole time because I was so nervous and excited, but according to some people, there were a lot of tears,” she said.
