The death of the terminally ill patient was heart-wrenching for Kim Still, the nurse who cared for her.
The fate of the elderly woman’s dog, which was found in an animal shelter after going missing, deeply troubled her.
A young woman wanted to do something for her lost furry friend.
Kim Still works at Northside Hospital Gwinnett, a hospital in Lawrenceville, Georgia (Southern United States).
She recently cared for the owner of Jax, a Chihuahua mix. The owner became seriously ill towards the end of her life and often confided in her nurses.
This exchange created a special bond between her and Kim Still.
Before her death, she expressed concern about the fate of her loyal four-legged companion. “She had no children. There was no family nearby.
All she had was the dog,” Handler told the New York Post.
When the woman died in the hospital, her family came and took Jax to an animal shelter.
Kim Still knew she couldn’t leave him alone. “I was so afraid he wouldn’t have a real chance and would end up being euthanized,” she says.
The nurse already had a dog but was more than willing to take in a second dog to save him.
She did this by going to a shelter and signing adoption papers.
This allowed Jax to get to know his new home and meet his new family.
A good boy. “He’s one of the most affectionate dogs in the world,” she says about the Chihuahua mix.
For her, the memory of her deceased patient lives on through Jax. Furthermore, his daily presence reminds her why she chose this beautiful profession.
