A shocking story where mother-in-law crossed the line with grandchild

A woman took to the Reddit platform “AITA” in hopes of getting advice from other users.

Sharing some background, the woman revealed that she had issues with her mother-in-law long before welcoming her first child in August 2021.

After the author of the post (OP) welcomed her child, things got worse with the mother-in-law. She described the operation as a “big mistake in general” when she left the hospital after giving birth.

Her mother-in-law insisted that she stay with her in-laws because she thought it was unfair that they could stay with the baby all the time while she couldn’t.

The OP noted that her mother-in-law had boundary issues before the baby was born, but it got worse after the birth.

The Redditor said the older woman didn’t follow all the rules, constantly kissed her four-month-old baby, and never left OP alone, even if it was to breastfeed.

My PPD had worsened to the point where I was no longer eating and crying constantly.
Her husband continued to try to stop his mother’s behavior, but eventually they had to kick her out and send her home.

OP’s grandmother and brother-in-law also had to leave. The OP revealed that her father usually babysat during the week, which angered the stepmother.

Her complaint didn’t make sense since she lived an hour and a half from the OP.

The mother-in-law harassed OP and her husband for months before they finally allowed her to watch her granddaughter every Wednesday at their apartment.

The day before the Redditor made her post, she was halfway through work when she received a call from her brother-in-law.

He told her his mother had called him in hysterics, saying she had dropped her granddaughter and was afraid the child would be seriously injured.

The Reddit user was frantic, ran to grab her coat and called her husband.

When she told him what had happened, he was livid, but because his shift finished before the user’s, he left an hour early and went straight home.

The OP’s husband was able to get his mother on the phone, but she was breaking down and was incoherent.

He and OP’s mom arrived at the same time and found the stepmom sobbing on the couch. Luckily, the six-month-old was fine except for a bruise and cut under his eye.

The child laughed at his grandmother’s tears.

The situation was resolved, doctors consulted and the mother-in-law was sent home.

The mother-in-law called the OP to try to explain, but she cut her off and said she wouldn’t watch her granddaughter later. The OP and her husband had already discussed this decision.

The OP informed her mother-in-law that she would not be able to care for the baby alone or in an emergency, leaving the older woman without support.

Now, to anyone who would listen, the mother-in-law was saying that she would never let her see her grandchild again. The OP said her mother-in-law had her pediatrician’s number and the department’s hotline number.

She explained that if the older woman couldn’t find the numbers, they were on the refrigerator.

The OP also explained that her mother-in-law wasn’t completely banned from seeing her grandchild, but she couldn’t do it without supervision.

The OP said it would take something pretty significant for her and her husband to completely cut the mother-in-law out of her granddaughter’s life.

Fortunately, Reddit users felt that the OP was not wrong in this situation.
