I have a German Shepherd, a normally calm and protective dog, who used to keep watch over the yard and was well-liked by everyone. But lately, his behavior had changed.
Instead of his usual calmness, he seemed increasingly agitated, barking for hours without any apparent reason.
At first, I didn’t fully realize the extent of the problem, but the complaints from the neighbors kept growing. That’s when I decided to install a camera to understand what was going on.
He was barking incessantly toward a specific corner of the garden, as if he perceived a threat or presence that no human could see. This situation, though surprising, pushed me to search for answers to understand what was disturbing my dog.

When watching the footage, my heart sank.
In the exact spot where my dog barked every night… there were three tiny kittens, trembling and hungry.
They were so discreet that I had never noticed them during the day.
But my dog, he had seen them.
And for days, he had been standing guard.
Every time a rat, a fox, or any other animal came near, he barked to keep them away.
Even humans passing too close were pushed back by his barking.
He wasn’t losing sleep for no reason: he was protecting lives.
