In the spring of 2019, Lilian Bachinskaïa became pregnant again and discovered that she was carrying a girl. Already having three sons, Lilian and her partner Anatoly wished to have a daughter.
During the ultrasound examination, the practitioners detected conjoined twins, joined at the head.
Despite the advice given by professionals, Lilian chose to continue her pregnancy to term, convinced that everything would turn out for the best.
On December 30, 2019, Aby and Mika were born.
The twins were joined at the head, but studies revealed that they did not share many brain areas, giving them a real opportunity for successful separation.
The process of separation began shortly after the birth of the babies.
It took approximately 9 months for the specialists to perform the calculations and prepare for the surgery.
A team of around thirty healthcare professionals at California Children’s Hospital took charge of the separation of the girls.
The surgery lasted approximately twenty-four hours. Everything went well, and both girls were in good health.
The doctors truly gave the babies a new lease on life. Lilian stayed with the babies at the hospital for about six months while Aby and Mika became acquainted with their new reality.
Today, 2 years after the separation, the Bachinski sisters are barely different from their peers.
They simply have a slight developmental delay, but they are quickly catching up.
They still need to overcome a few mainly superficial steps. The practitioners assure that in the future, people will not realize that the two girls were conjoined.
Furthermore, towards the end of the previous year, Aby and Mika welcomed a new member into their family.
Lilian became a mother once again. The newborn, in excellent condition, was named Adam.
