This story might bring tears to your eyes. Turia Pitt, an Australian athlete, had no idea her life would take a drastic turn during a marathon. Following a fire, the young woman was burned on 65% of her body.
After being hospitalized for nearly eight months, the Australian was able to rely on the unwavering support of her husband.
The resilience of this young athlete is extraordinary. Her inner strength is such that she has become a real source of inspiration on social media. Turia Pitt’s life, a former engineer and fitness model, changed in 2011.
It was during a 100-kilometer marathon that she almost died in a fire. Today, she bears the scars of that fire on nearly 65% of her body.
Nothing preordained the young athlete to survive that fire. Doctors assumed she wouldn’t wake up from her comma after being burned on nearly 65% of her body. Her partner, Michael Hoskin, accompanied her on her long journey to survival.
He left his job as a police officer to support her through this tough ordeal. After two years of recovery, 200 surgeries, and six months of hospitalization, Michael remained steadfast. Turia remembers a loving and attentive partner.
“He was with me at the hospital every morning until night. He never failed in his promise. Michael made me laugh, comforted me, supported me. I could count on him,” she says.
Michael’s feelings strengthened as Turia’s strength grew. “I realized how strong she was when I saw how she survived this ordeal. It’s really hard to see someone you love go through that.
When Turia recovered, I felt filled with joy seeing her reconnect with the joys of life,” he smiles. Today, Turia and Michael are the happy parents of a 22-month-old son.
Turia’s burns don’t stop her from living life to the fullest. On the contrary, they have helped her cultivate a state of gratitude towards life.
