Two security guards are seen as heroes after assisting a mother whose baby was choking.
Just before noon, Joey Madrigal and Niko Nesbeth parked at a busy intersection gas station in Beverly Hills and witnessed a scene unfolding in front of them.
A woman holding her child in her arms was trying to call a doctor, and Nesbeth, a former Marine, rushed to help despite not being a doctor.
Even before understanding what was happening, the mother practically placed the baby in Nesbeth’s arms, who quickly communicated with his colleague and noticed that the baby’s face was turning blue.
He immediately turned the baby over and began tapping its back to clear the airways.
“He told me the baby couldn’t breathe. At that moment, I reacted abruptly, and a lesson I learned through training and other experiences is that it’s crucial to slow down time and gather all the information to organize the rescue efforts as quickly as possible,” explained Madrigal.
As a private security guard for Covered 6, Madrigal used his personal contact line to call the emergency services and have an ambulance dispatched immediately.
Mr. Nesbeth said it was an unparalleled experience to be able to support a community, especially a young child. He described the experience as extraordinary.
The gas station’s security cameras captured the incident, and the two men were hailed as heroes whose quick and decisive action saved the baby’s life.
Nesbeth and Madrigal believe it was some kind of divine intervention that led them to be at the scene at that particular moment.
