😦 We went on vacation for seven days, and upon our return, my dog didn’t even look at me, as if I were a stranger: What the camera footage revealed left me speechless.
Before leaving, I had found a good sitter for our dog, Baxter, because we couldn’t take him with us. Usually, I take my dog everywhere, but this time we were going on vacation with my sister’s family, and since her daughter is afraid of dogs, I decided to leave Baxter at home.
I thought I had everything covered: food, medications, walks, and most importantly, a trustworthy sitter. I had searched for someone with good recommendations and found Clara.
I even left a printed guide detailing Baxter’s routine, including the music I usually play for him. After all of that, we left with peace of mind, thinking there was no reason for anything to go wrong.
From time to time, Clara sent us photos of Baxter to show us he was doing fine.
When we returned, to my great surprise, Baxter didn’t greet me as usual. He sat there, motionless, as if I were a stranger to him.
It was really strange, and this was completely unlike him. I had left him with sitters two or three times before, and he never behaved like this.
I felt like something was wrong, so I decided to check the camera footage. What I discovered left me speechless.

When reviewing the footage, I discovered that Clara had never taken care of Baxter.
The photos she sent me had been edited.
After several attempts to contact her, I decided to go to her house.
Clara explained that her mother was sick, and she had asked her neighbor to look after Baxter.
However, the neighbor had only come by two or three times to feed him, without really taking care of him.
Back home, I did everything I could to regain Baxter’s trust: more walks, new toys, and a lot of affection.
Little by little, he started to greet me joyfully again.
Baxter forgave me, as all dogs know how to do, and it reminded me how important it is to be there for those who matter.
