š¦ When I cut the lemon, I noticed something inside and was shocked when I discovered what it was.
Yesterday, I went grocery shopping as usual, and once I got home, I put everything in the fridge. Just an hour later, I felt like having some lemon tea.
So, I grabbed a lemon from the fridge, cut it, and there, I got a huge surprise. Inside, there was something strange. I was really shocked because I always shop at the same supermarket, and generally, all the products are fresh.
At first, I had no idea what it was. I took a photo to send to my mom and ask her what she thought. When she explained to me what it was, I was even more shocked.
Indeed, when I cut the first slice, nothing was visible, and I was ready to put this lemon in my tea, not imagining what could have happened to me.
Fortunately, I continued cutting, and that’s when I saw the inside of the lemon.

Inside this lemon, what you see is actually a manifestation of Alternaria rot, a fungal disease caused by the fungus Alternaria citri.
This parasite primarily attacks citrus fruits, especially lemons, when they undergo stress, such as a skin injury, prolonged storage, or humidity conditions favorable to the fungus’s development.
On the outside, the fruit may appear almost normal, but inside, the pulp begins to darken, taking on this very characteristic starry appearance.
Alternaria rot is not dangerous if you touch the fruit, but it makes it completely unfit for consumption.
It is one of the main post-harvest diseases that affect lemons, reducing their shelf life and commercial quality.
If you find a lemon showing these signs, itās best to throw it away immediately to prevent contamination of other fruits stored nearby.
