“You’re no longer the priority! Your sister needs a room, so you’ll live in the basement,” my father told me

😲 “You’re no longer the priority. You can sleep in the basement. Your sister needs a room for the twins,” my father told me, forcing me to give up my bedroom. His words deeply hurt me, and I decided to teach them a good lesson.

Ever since my sister had gotten married, I had moved back home to take care of our parents. I had a good job and could pay their rent as well as everything they needed, since they were unemployed.

Everything was going well until the day my sister came home with her twins. She told us that her husband had betrayed her and that she wanted a divorce.

We didn’t have a guest room, and I completely understood that she needed a place to live with her children. While I was thinking about the best way to help her, my parents had already emptied my bedroom without even asking for my opinion.

They had moved all my belongings to the basement, and when I came home, my father coldly said to me:

— You’re no longer the priority. You can sleep in the basement. Your sister needs a room for the twins.

At first, I said nothing. But shortly afterward, my sister started using my car without even asking for my permission. When I wanted to say something to her, my mother simply replied:

“You’re no longer the priority! Your sister needs a room, so you’ll live in the basement,” my father told me

The next morning, I got up early and made a decision that no one expected.

I collected my belongings and left without telling anyone.

At noon, my father called me.

— Where are you? Your sister needs the car to take the children to the doctor!

— Sorry, Dad. The car is mine. And starting today, I will no longer pay your rent or your bills.

A long silence followed.

“You’re no longer the priority! Your sister needs a room, so you’ll live in the basement,” my father told me

A few minutes later, my mother called me back in tears. She said that they had never intended to hurt me and that they were only trying to help my sister.

I calmly replied:

— I understand that my sister needs you. But I also needed respect.

A few days later, my parents realized that helping my sister did not justify treating me as if my sacrifices didn’t matter.

I came back to talk to them, but this time, I set my boundaries: I would only help them if they learned to respect me.
