When Corion Evans saw the car coming off the ramp, he was lucky to be in the right place at the right time.
After traveling a distance of approximately 20 feet, the car began to sink.
Korion quickly took off his shoes and shirt and began swimming toward the car the victims were in.
He said: “According to the driver of this car, she followed the instructions from her GPS navigator and claimed she did not know she was going straight into the water.
I just remember thinking, I can’t let any of these people die. They had to get out of the water as quickly as possible. I completely ignored everything around me.
I watched them closely, trying to keep them afloat and swimming alongside them at the same time. »
Police arrived quickly and immediately began assisting in the rescue effort; however, one of the officers was knocked into the water by a frightened teenager.
Once again, Korion acted quickly, as he explained to reporters: “I turned around. I see a cop drowning. He goes underwater and asks for help. »
“As a result, I went there, grabbed the policeman and helped him until I felt strong enough to walk again. »
Fortunately, the three girls were quickly brought ashore and, after receiving medical treatment, were allowed to return home.
Korion added: “It was 25 meters from the shore, so we had to swim a lot. After that, my legs were very sore from fatigue. »
“However, anything could float in that water. I didn’t think about it at the time. »
