😲 A little girl came to the hospital to become a donor, and I was speechless when I discovered the reason behind her gesture.
One day, after a particularly difficult shift, I had just finished in my office. Exhausted, my mind filled with a thousand thoughts, I was heading towards the exit.
As I was leaving the office, I spotted a little girl in the hallway. She was wearing dirty clothes and seemed no older than six years old. I looked around: there was no one else, she was all alone.
I approached slowly so as not to scare her and, in a gentle voice, I said, “Hi, little one, I’m Marc, what’s your name?”
She looked at me for a moment, then, in a timid voice, she replied, “My name is Emily.”
I asked her, “So, Emily, are you in pain somewhere? I’m a doctor.”
She looked up at me and observed me for a moment before answering, “Doctor, I want to become a donor, please.”
Surprised, I repeated, “What did you say, little one?”
She continued, “My grandmother told me that I can become a donor.”
I replied, “Yes, dear, but why do you want to do that?”
And then, she told me her story. What she revealed to me left me speechless and deeply moved because the reason for her gesture was much deeper than I could have imagined.

“Doctor, I want to sell my blood… That way, I’ll have money to buy my grandmother’s medicine.
She coughs a lot, she barely eats anymore.”
Her words pierced my heart.
“My little Emily, what you want to do shows how much you love your grandmother, but it’s very dangerous. You’re still too small to give blood.”
“There are people, benefactors, who help families in need. I will talk to them for you.”
A few days later, thanks to their generosity, Emily’s grandmother received her medicine.
When I delivered the news, she hugged me tightly with her little arms, her eyes full of hope.
