The world of modeling is not exactly known for its open-mindedness about age. Yet, we are seeing more and more models who, well beyond the average age of the profession, are making their mark in the fashion industry.
Take Setsuko Saito, also known as Rosa Saito, for example. Originally from São Paulo, this remarkable woman has managed to carve out a space for herself in a particularly exclusive field.
A Late but Promising Start
It was at the age of 68 that Setsuko Saito was approached by a specialized agency. At first, she was skeptical about her ability to become a model. It took her a year to be convinced, and it was by two modeling agencies and a photographer.
Ultimately, Setsuko decided to seize this opportunity. Today, at 71 years old, she is thriving in this new role.
A Life Dedicated to Others
Before becoming a model, Setsuko spent her life taking care of others. At just 22, she was already caring for her ailing mother. In 2000, after her husband’s death, she had to raise their three children alone.
What pushed her to try modeling was the feeling of having always lived for others and the desire to have no regrets. “If I don’t try, I’ll never know,” she said.
