The girl realized the scream was coming from a pickup truck and approached the vehicle.
She froze immediately when she noticed a newborn. The baby, who was barely a few days old, was dressed in a onesie and was lying in the dumpster all alone.
The infant’s diaper was dirty and the little one was completely frozen.
The student immediately called the police. When the emergency medical services captain arrived on scene, he had with him a heated mattress specially prepared for the children.
“We were struck by how frozen the baby was, it was a newborn,” Captain Suarez who came to the rescue said later.
The child was rushed to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, where fate is expected to smile on the baby.
A doctor, Lorraine Nichols, a respiratory therapist, was luckily there and she examined the toddler.
Lorraine had breast cancer and was happily recovered, but could not conceive. With her husband Charles, the doctor decided to adopt a child, but it was not an easy thing.
When the woman held the frozen infant in her arms, she felt an immediate connection with him.
“I thought right away that I became his mother that day,” the therapist said in an interview.
In a few days, the little boy was already at Nichols’ house and for the first time, the couple celebrated their long-dreamed-of Christmas.
