John Dowling is a contemporary banjo player from Cornwall, England. His musical talent is praised by many people. Even retired Scottish actor Billy Connolly called Dowling “the most remarkable banjo player I have heard in ages”.
John Dowling began his musical career at a very young age. He received his first violin in 1986 and played his first concert the following year.
In 1993 he received a music scholarship to Truro School in Cornwall to play the violin. The following year, he received his first banjo as a Christmas gift.
John Dowling participated in various folk and bluegrass competitions from 1998 to 2002. He even taught British comedian Frank Skinner to play the banjo on television.
John Dowling was also part of the musical The Dowling Thing, along with his wife and violinist Anna Dowling. The eclectic group is a fusion of bluegrass, jazz, folk and funk, a true testament to the members’ musical journeys.
