😲 “Daddy, can we leave, please? I’m scared,” my daughter said to me when we were at my girlfriend’s house for the first time.
My wife passed away when my daughter was only one year old. Since then, I’ve been a single father, and I must admit, being a single dad is not easy.
My daughter is now four years old, and I do everything I can to make sure she has everything she needs.
Four months ago, I met Lilly, a very kind woman. From our first meeting, I told her about my daughter. She expressed a desire to meet her and get to know her.
To my surprise, they got along very well, because my daughter is quite shy around strangers and, generally, she’s not very sociable.
One day, Lilly invited us over for dinner. She even bought video games for my daughter, so she wouldn’t get bored.
For an hour, my daughter stayed in Lilly’s room. Then, she came to me and said, “Daddy, can we leave, please? I’m scared.”
I couldn’t understand what could have caused such a reaction, so I asked Lilly to step out for a moment so I could talk privately with my daughter.
When Lilly stepped out, my daughter told me, “Daddy, she’s mean, I don’t want to stay here.” The reason for her words really surprised me.

I really had no idea what could have frightened my daughter so much.
I went to Lilly’s closet, where my daughter had seemed to hide a little earlier.
When I opened the door, I found a collection of Halloween decorations: monster masks, scary costumes.
It was because of the masks she had seen that she was frightened.
I quickly realized that to an adult, these things were perfectly harmless, but for a four-year-old, they could be terrifying.
I immediately took the masks and put them away somewhere else, explaining to my daughter that they were just costumes and nothing could hurt her.
She gradually calmed down.
