😦 Every evening, my son would call me and ask if I was alone at home. One day, I lied without knowing that this lie would save my life.
My son lived and worked in another country, and I lived alone. Every evening at 9 PM, he would call and ask the same question: “Mom, are you alone?”
If I answered “yes,” he would wish me goodnight and hang up. If I answered “no,” he would ask for details, as if he feared some invisible danger.
I should note that he had never been this anxious before, but over the past six months, he had changed. I thought it was due to the distance. However, the tension in his voice became more and more palpable every night, until last night, when my instinct made me lie.
Last night, I wasn’t alone, but I decided not to tell him the truth. I couldn’t even imagine that this lie would, in the end, save my life.

A few minutes later, someone tried to force open my back door.
Then I received a message from my son: “If you’re alone, stay silent. If you’re not, run.”
I didn’t have time to think, but the presence of Laura, the neighbor’s daughter, immediately reassured me.
She had spent the evening with me, and I had invited her to stay a little longer.
When she heard the noise, she whispered to me to stay quiet and called the police.
Within minutes, sirens could be heard in the distance.
The police quickly subdued the intruder, a masked man, and arrested him.
Later, my son called me, nervous.
He admitted to having had a strange dream where I was being attacked.
