Recently, I had noticed that food was often disappearing from our refrigerator. At first, I thought I was simply being forgetful, so I didn’t pay much attention to it.
One day, I saw my daughter take a sandwich from the fridge and carry it to her room. That was strange, because she never ate anywhere except in the kitchen. Then I noticed her slipping it into her backpack.
It started happening repeatedly. So I decided to find out what was really going on. One afternoon, when she left to play at the park with the neighborhood kids, I noticed she had taken two sandwiches from the fridge.
I quietly followed her. When she arrived at the park, there were a few stray dogs there, and at first I thought she had brought the sandwiches for them. But she didn’t even go near the animals.
Instead, she went and sat on a bench, as if she were waiting for someone.

She was wearing a worn-out coat despite the warm weather and was slowly walking with a battered bag in her hand.
My daughter immediately stood up smiling and handed her the sandwiches she had brought.
The woman seemed embarrassed at first, but my daughter reassured her with incredible kindness.
They sat together on the bench and started talking as if they had known each other for a long time.
It turned out that the elderly woman sometimes slept in her car and didn’t always have enough to eat.
My daughter had met her a few weeks earlier, and since that day, she had been secretly bringing her food.
At that moment, I felt surprise, pride… and overwhelming emotion.
