😦 “Go home and clean the house, there’s no room for you in the car”: that’s what my mother-in-law said to me while throwing my suitcase, and my family went on a trip without me, a trip I had almost entirely funded.
I had paid for almost the entire trip with my year-end bonus. The whole family was excitedly preparing. I had organized everything meticulously, thinking it would be a great opportunity to strengthen family bonds.
I had chosen a five-star hotel and booked some nice restaurants for our evenings. I had even packed a sandwich basket for the road.
And there they were, the whole family already in the car. When I approached to get in, my mother-in-law threw my suitcase and publicly humiliated me: “Go home and clean the house, there’s no room for you in the car.” Then she slammed the door, and they left without me.
I stood there, not knowing how to react, trying to understand what had just happened. I have to admit, my relationship with my mother-in-law has never been perfect, but this time, it was really too much. She crossed every line.
What disappointed me even more was that no one, especially my husband, reacted. They left without me, as if nothing had happened. Can you imagine?

I stood still for a long moment before going back into the house.
The feeling of humiliation was unbearable, but I was determined not to let it slide.
I took my phone, called the hotel, and canceled all the reservations.
The restaurants, the excursions… everything was canceled, just like that.
Then I wrote a message to my husband, saying we would meet in the yard for the divorce, and I left that house for good.
