😯 I arrived a little late to dinner, and I heard my fiancé mocking me in front of our friends : at that moment, he had no idea what I was about to do… nor how much he would regret it.
From time to time, my fiancé would organize small dinner gatherings with our friends. The last time, he chose an elegant restaurant, and I even thought he was going to propose to me.
I had gotten ready, convinced it would be one of the happiest days of my life—but I was wrong.
I arrived at the restaurant a bit late, and everyone was already there. From a distance, I saw them sitting together, laughing so loudly that they didn’t even notice me.
As I got closer, I heard my fiancé say: “I’m not going to marry her. I feel sorry for her… she’s pathetic.”
Even my friends—or at least, the people I thought were my friends—started laughing. No one defended me.
I walked up to them calmly, making it clear that I had heard everything. My fiancé looked at me, surprised. He understood. But since I stayed calm, he assumed it would all end in awkward silence, and that he could smooth things over his way.
He was wrong—and he had no idea what I was about to do.

My fiancé had forgotten one important thing: everything he had, he owed to my father.
Without him, his projects would never have succeeded.
That night, when I got home, I didn’t cry—I called my father.
I told him everything and asked him to take everything back so my fiancé would lose what he had.
He asked only one question: “Are you sure?”
I answered yes, without hesitation.
In the following days, the funding disappeared, contracts were canceled, and partners withdrew.
When he came to see me, panicked, I looked at him one last time and calmly said: “You were right about one thing… I deserve better.”
Then I left, without looking back.
