When I go shopping, I always dress simply. One day, I entered a luxury store to buy a few clothes. I was wearing a plain hoodie and ripped jeans.
One of the saleswomen looked me up and down, then started chatting with the other saleswomen. I had the feeling they were talking about me, but I didnât pay much attention.
Every time a new customer entered the store, all the saleswomen rushed to help, but none came toward me.
Even when I tried to call them, they pretended to be busy.
After calling them a second time, one of the saleswomen came over to me and said, “I donât think youâll find anything for you in this store. Youâd be better off going to second-hand stores.”
I felt very uncomfortable and wanted to leave the store, but what happened next completely changed the saleswomen’s attitude toward me and left everyone speechless.

He stopped when he saw what was happening.
He observed the saleswomen for a moment, then turned to me.
It was one of my husbandâs friends.
Before any of the saleswomen could approach him, he looked at the one who had ignored me and said, in a calm but firm voice: “I donât think you realize who youâre talking to. I am a friend of her husband, and I can guarantee you that you just made a big mistake.”
He then added: “Her husband is one of the most influential investors, and he would not appreciate the way youâre treating his wife. Youâre right, people like them shouldnât waste their time in stores like yours.”
The saleswomen were completely frozen, not knowing how to react.
