😯 It was always the manager who fired employees instead of the director, but one day the director did it himself, and I realized that something serious was happening.
In our company, everyone knew it: if the director wanted to fire someone, he never did it himself. It was always the manager who handled it for him.
The director would simply sign the papers. He never walked into the office saying: “You will have to leave us.”
At first, we thought he was weak, that he always left the responsibility of firing employees to the manager, and that he was afraid to look them in the eyes.
One day, when I walked into the office, the secretary told me that the director wanted to see me.
When I entered, I noticed he wasn’t like usual. His phone wasn’t in his hands, as it always was, and he seemed a bit nervous.
He looked at me and said: “You’re fired. Take your things and leave.”
I noticed his hands were trembling, and through the glass, I saw people in uniform walking quickly down the hallway.
At that moment, I realized something serious was happening.

The director lowered his voice, as if he was afraid of being overheard.
“Don’t argue, please. Take your things and leave immediately. There are going to be searches here… and I don’t want to see your name on the list.”
I stood frozen for a few seconds, not understanding.
This wasn’t a simple dismissal.
There was fear in his eyes, an unusual urgency.
Without asking any questions, I left the office.
In the hallway, the men in uniform were already opening doors and speaking sharply to employees.
Only later did I learn that the day before, one of the accountants had been arrested for corruption.
A case much bigger than I had imagined.
And suddenly, everything became clear.
The director wasn’t firing me… he was protecting me, making me leave to keep me from being involved in something I wasn’t guilty of.
