Claire and I have been friends since childhood. She has always been there for me, especially when my parents divorced. Since then, she became like a sister to me. We’ve always been there for each other, and I’ve always been there to support her during her difficult moments.
After her marriage, she moved to England. She has two beautiful boys and is expecting her third child, a girl, who she is supposed to give birth to in one or two weeks.
Since I work online, I have the flexibility to work from anywhere. So, I decided to go to England to be close to her before her delivery. It had been four years since I last saw her, and I decided to surprise her by not telling anyone.
I booked a flight and left without telling our mutual friends. I knew her address, so I took a taxi straight to her place. When she opened the door and saw me, she screamed with joy, unable to believe I was actually there in front of her.
She hugged me warmly, and for a few hours, we talked nonstop to catch up. But after a while, I noticed something different about her. She wasn’t the Claire I knew.
She said something that devastated me. I took my bags and left to go back home, my heart heavy with regret for coming to see her.
