😦 I took in a young man I had found shivering from the cold in a cemetery: that same night, he approached my bed, and I screamed in fear: “Stop, please, what are you doing?”
I am 78 years old and live alone. Five years ago, my son and his family died in a car accident while coming to visit me. Since then, every year, I go to the cemetery on the same date.
The last time I went there, I saw a young man, about 20 years old, shivering from the cold, near a gravestone. He looked so much like my son that I couldn’t help but approach him.
While talking to him, I realized that he had nowhere to go, so I offered him to stay at my house for a few days, until he found a solution.
After hesitating for a moment, he agreed. At home, I gave him one of my son’s sweaters and a cup of tea. He thanked me and told me he would never forget my help.
That night, I went to bed with an inexplicable sense of peace. The house seemed less empty than usual. But in the middle of the night, I woke up hearing footsteps.
The young man was standing in front of my door, staring at me. When he approached my bed, I screamed in fear: “Stop, please, what are you doing?”
When I realized what he was doing in my room, I was left speechless.

When he heard me scream, he quickly stepped back, his eyes full of concern.
In a calm and reassuring voice, he said: “Please calm down, I didn’t mean to scare you.”
I looked at him, still in shock, as he slowly came closer.
“I just wanted to close the window, it was cold outside, and I didn’t want you to catch a cold…”
It was then that I realized that indeed, the window had been left open, letting the freezing night air inside.
I lowered my gaze, ashamed of how I had reacted.
I apologized in a trembling voice: “I’m sorry, I… I didn’t understand.”
He nodded, a faint smile on his lips, and gently closed the window.
I felt both relieved and embarrassed.
